Dajia taro owes its national popularity to Ah-Tsung-Shih, the person who came up with a purple rosy pastry using top betel nut taros. The pastry became renowned as Shan Mai Taro Cake and facilitated Dajia’s taro industry. Ah-Tsung-Shih is a pastry chef of more than 40 years of experience. To allow more people to learn about the culture of local taro industry, he founded the Taro Culture Museum including eight themed areas where visitors can learn about the ecology of taros, the history of taro industry, the culture of pastries, Ah-Tsung-Shih’s family stories and buy souvenirs from the gift shop. Moreover, fun activities are available as well including guided tours, tasting taro cuisines and the most interesting of all, taro cake DIY workshop in which a pastry chef will demonstrate how to bake taro cakes. Visitors should reserve for DIY workshop in advance.
