Shigang Dam is designed and constructed by Taiwanese architects in 1974. It was built on Dajia River as a water reservoir that supplies daily and productive water uses in Taichung. The dam is also known for its magnificent scenery especially when there is ample water. Whereas, the downstream full of gravels is of an entirely different view which is also worth visiting. Having endured the 921 Earthquake, a 921 Earthquake Memorial Park was built on the other end of the dam where parts of the damaged dam structure were kept to remind people of the powerful quake. Also in light of the earthquake, a fish ladder is added to the damaged bank on the right side of the dam to facilitate diadromous fishes' natural migration. Since Shigang Dam is on the route of Dongfeng Bicycle Greenway, many tourists bike through Dongfeng Bicycle Greenway to get to the beautiful scenery of Shigang Dam.
