François Delarozière, director
Building an object in movement means creating architecture that lives; movement is the very expression of life.
François Delarozière, a graduate of Marseille's School of Fine Arts, is the artistic director of the company La Machine, whose workshops are located in Nantes and Tournefeuille. From the onset, François Delarozière has been exploring the world of objects in movement and their theatricality, as well as redesigning carousels and participating in the development of urban projects.
As a set builder and creator of objects for street theatre, he both conceives and oversees the construction of large scale theatre-related machines. He has been doing so for over twenty years. Some of the most emblematic showpieces of these urban theatre performances include the Giant, the Rhinoceros, the Little Giant, the Giraffes, the Little Girl-Giant, the Great Elephant, and the Giant Spiders.
He creates fascinating carousels and they travel from town to town, turning heads—The Magic Carousel, The Beautiful Carousel, Andrea's Carousel, Carré Sénart Carousel and The Sea Worlds Carousel. He was also associate designer for the renovation of Le Channel theatre in Calais. He is, along with Pierre Orefice, the creator of Les Machines de l’Île in Nantes. With The Animals in the Square, he accompanied architect Alexandre Chemetoff in the renovation work of Napoleon Square in La Roche-Sur-Yon. Finally, he and his company continue to develop and create largescale street productions in the great cities of the world.
La Machine, France
The street theatre company La Machine was founded in 1999 and is directed by François Delarozière. It came into being through the collaboration of stage artists, technicians and designers working together to build atypical performance objects.
What is at the heart of the La Machine Company's artistic approach is movement—interpreted as a language, as a source of emotion. Through each of these living architectures, the cities of tomorrow are dreamed of, changing the way we look at those we live in today.

Fix your eyes on these strange machines that will surely thrill kids and adults alike!
Peculiar machines in the plaza! No seats! This is not a concert where you simply sit and listen—you watch as much as you listen and surround yourself with the sounds of machinery. Are those sounds coming from the violinists, or is it from the contraption made up of eight guitars? Is that water vibrations competing with the trumpet that I hear? Who are the real musicians in La Symphonie Mécanique, the machines or the performers? In this laboratory of sounds, you are invited to walk about and examine up-close the symphony of machines and classical music, a feast for all your senses.
In coproduction with Le Channel (the Calais national stage), Lieux Publics (National Centre for Street Arts, Marseille), L’Usine (a subsidized place dedicated to street art, Tournefeuille), Le Parapluie (International Centre for Artistic Production, Aurillac)
